FuelBox teams up with Verizon and Nokia to provide power and relief to Hurricane Irma Victims

FuelBox, a technology startup based in Santa Barbara, CA that specializes in manufacturing premium quality charging solutions and mobile batteries has partnered with Verizon and Nokia to support Hurricane Irma relief efforts, supplying their entire inventory of charging products into the hands of the first-responders. “Our hearts go out to the victims of this catastrophic storm, we are sending every product we have available to Florida” says Robert Herr, FuelBox Founder & Visionary.

Governor of Florida, Rick Scott, said more than 30,000 workers are assisting efforts to bring power back to nearly 5 million Floridians. Many of these workers are Verizon and Nokia’s Operation Convergent Response first-responders who will be providing mobile power and re-establishing communications to those affected by the destructive storm that struck the nation just a week ago.

"Power pretty much drives everything," said Christopher Krebs, assistant secretary for infrastructure protection at the Department of Homeland Security. Connectivity between loved ones in times of crisis is a must, and communication via smartphones and tablets requires reliable power. Relief workers are spending up to 14 hours a day in the field to help victims and FuelBox charging products improve the productivity of those workers by ensuring that their cell phones are functioning, with dependable backup power.

FuelBox Founder & Chief Marketing Officer Dan Friedman says, “FuelBox is proud to play a critical and immediate role as part of Verizon and Nokia’s Operation Convergent Response Team. We plan to take an even bigger role supporting first-responders and the companies that aid them in the future.”

Floridians without power might be in the dark for a while. According to Florida Power & Light, customers who lost electricity on the west coast of Florida -- where Irma made its final landfall -- are not likely to have power restored until September 22.

Beyond Florida, statistics of other Americans who lost power due to Hurricane Irma are as follows:

  •   South Carolina - 55,000+ customers
  •   North Carolina - 29,000+ customers
  •   Alabama - 7,000+ customers
