South Coast Startup is Now Shipping
FuelBox, a company started by two Santa Barbara City College students several years ago, is shipping out its first pre-orders for their patented mobile device charging system from its new headquarters and has attracted an impressive executive team.
The products are available now at myfuelbox.com.
“FuelBox is also taking wholesale inquiries, and we are excited for the opportunity to empower other businesses,” said Chief Marketing Officer Dan Friedman. “FuelBox is the perfect gift for the holidays.”
The FuelBox “Ultimate Charging Solution” is a combination of a docking station and mobile battery pack providing over 25 extra hours of power for cell phones, tablets and other devices at home and on-the-go. “This powerful duo is universally compatible and creates a convenience factor unlike any other charging product available today, get yours now and simplify your life,” Friedman said. FuelBox has been granted its second patent on its flagship product, the Ultimate Charging Solution, and has several new products in development.
Co-founders Robert Herr (left) and Dan Friedman (right) came up with the idea for the device after a friend continuously lost his phone charger.
“We were fortunate to have received over $200k in orders before our products even landed. Now that products are here…we are only fighting to keep up with demand.” Herr said. “The challenging delays in getting our first product to market have been a blessing in disguise. We have gained a unique perspective to our industry that has given us a major advantage going into 2017, and we're able to bring together a team of outstanding professionals to execute our plans.”
The FuelBox team is growing quickly, including a few new executive members who now serve the following roles: President & CEO: Steve Shotwell, VP of Operations: Thomas Trenschel, CFO: Paul Daniel, and Chairman of the Board: Jim Sloan.
Steve Shotwell joined FuelBox as president & CEO and board member in September. He has more than 30 years of executive management experience in manufacturing and selling high-tech, high-volume products. He was recently president and CEO of SloanLED, which was successfully acquired by Baird Capital.
“FuelBox has a great market opportunity, providing an innovatively convenient way to keep your mobile devices charged. Of equal importance to the superior product design is that we manufacture and deliver the products with similar performance. As such, we have added extensive electronics manufacturing experience to our team, including the addition of our own Chinese-national electrical engineer and China office to manage our subcontractor and supplier relationships. ” Shotwell said.
On Sept. 1, the company opened its new headquarters at 114 E. Haley St., Suite K, in Santa Barbara. The 1,400-square-foot office will allow the team sufficient space to develop the next phase of its products and to make its sales and marketing activities as it launches production, Friedman said.
